| Elk City Dust Devil Elk City, Idaho 83525 Hello Everyone, 3/21/2011 Winter is almost over and it is time to start planning our ATV Fun Runs for 2011. The Board of Directors met in March and planned our scheduled rides for this year. I am sending along with this newsletter a copy of our scheduled events and meetings for 2011. At the meeting we decided to raffle off a 270 Winchester 700 model with a Leopold Scope. We will start selling tickets right away and having the drawing at our Break up party over Labor Day weekend. Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. We have a theme for the tickets called Whack a Wolf. We are checking into seeing if there is some kind of diffidence fund out there to help with legal fess for anyone who has shot a wolf and is going to court over it. We would donate a percentage of our proceeds of the selling of ticket to them. I need everyone to vote on this and get back to me no later than April 15. We are looking at right around $1000.00 to buy the gun and scope. If I don’t hear back from you I will take that as a yes vote and we will order the gun and scope. You can call, mail your vote or email me or any of the other officers. valpatton@live.com . We also discussed raising the annual dues for the upcoming year. We will vote on this at our spring meeting in May. The price we came up with is $15.00 singles and $25.00 for a family. The reason for this is the rising cost of food, office supplies, mailings and other things we need to run our club. We all love our animals and I have been asked for those of you who bring their animals to our events, please have them on a leash. We are not trying to offend anyone but out of respect for others please have them on a leash . Thank you We are still trying to get grants to build on our property next to Elk Creek Station. The money that we have raised is not enough to get started. In the meantime we are still renting the property to Ron Norland for $75.00 a month. We had a sign made and it will be put back up as soon as the weather permits. Hopefully this year we can get a grant to starting getting some work done. I was hoping to have something up before I leave office next year but I don’t see that happening yet. I am going on Vacation April 11 and will not be back until May 17th. I will have my computer with me and I will be checking my emails, I will send any information I get from other clubs and the Idaho State ATV Association, on to you. I will have my cell phone but it does not always work where I will be staying but leave a message and I will call you when I get into cell service. 208-507-0107 We need donations to help with the cost of the Fireworks. The Dust Devils have been the one in charge of getting donations for the fireworks. Local individuals, organization and Business in Elk City have been wonderful in the past donating for this event. If any of our members would like to donate make sure you specify the amount you want donated for fireworks. We understand money is short but whatever you can afford will help, if you can’t afford to donate anything DO NOT FEEL BAD. Mark your calendars for our upcoming events and just to give you a heads up Don is planning a longer ride to Dixie this year. So you better get in shape. We also talked about a camp out on the Darby Montana Road but did not set that one in stone. We will wait on that one until later in the year to see if that one will take place. I will have another newsletter in May after our meeting and I will be sending along our membership form to be filled out. We need you to fill out a new one every year. We need to see if any changes have been made to address, phone numbers and email address. Thank you Valerie Patton INFORMATION TO LOOK AT. Senators pass bill that could prevent U.S. Forest Service from closing roads KTVB BOISE -- State senators have approved a bill aimed at preventing the U.S. Forest Service from closing some roads to all-terrain vehicles amid safety concerns over underage drivers. MORE INFORMATION Last Fall you were invited to participate in a regional meeting of outdoor recreation opinion leaders. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation aggregated the top issues and opportunities from the process to kick start public participation in an online discussion about outdoor recreation in the state. That online tool is now up and ready for use. The following is a news release about the tool. Thanks for your participation in the process to this point, and certainly feel free to join in the discussion online and post your own ideas. You can have your say on the future of outdoor recreation in Idaho BOISE—The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) wants your opinion about outdoor recreation in Idaho. Are recreation opportunities increasing? Are fees charged for camping competitive? Is solitude still easy to find in Idaho? You can comment on outdoor recreation issues already identified, or post issues of your own at www. idahorecreationfutures..org. IDPR Planning Chief Rick Just says this is an idea generator, not a survey. “Often if your address wasn’t randomly selected, you don’t get to participate in a survey,” Just said. “This time, everyone can participate. We want to know what’s important to you.” IDPR wants to hear about recreation issues everywhere in the state, not just in state parks. The agency produces the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Plan (SCORTP) every five years for all recreation providers, public, private, local, state and federal. The plan ranks issues and opportunities identified by citizens, and IDPR adjusts its criteria for Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grants in order to help meet those needs. “The Idaho Recreation Futures site is one method we’re using this year to stay in touch with citizen needs,” Just said. “If it proves popular, we’ll probably just leave it in place.” |
